Mr. Cheam is a graduate electrical engineer, having obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia. He is an experienced and certified fire and explosion origin and cause investigator CFEI), a certified fire investigation instructor (CFII), and a forensic engineer. He has carried out numerous forensic investigations and damage assessment cases. Prior to joining Envista, Mr. Cheam spent six years as Lead Engineer in the steel industry, where he carried out a wide range of responsibilities, including: steel process, electrical furnace, electrical projects, electrical power systems (transformer, switchgears, etc.), design and modification of electrical equipment and machinery, managing and carrying out the installation, testing and fault finding of electrical and mechanical equipment. He managed a team of approximately 22 technician personnel. Prior to working in the steel industry, Mr. Cheam worked in the electrical cable manufacturing industry as an engineer where he carried out a wide range of responsibilities, including: cable process, electrical equipment and machinery, design and modification of electrical equipment and machinery, managing and carrying out the installation and maintenance, testing and fault finding of electrical and mechanical equipment. He was also involved with investigation of cable product failures and product quality. Mr. Cheam also has significant energy management / energy savings experience with heavy equipment systems, motor drives, inverters, solar power systems, system monitoring and control. Energy management projects he was responsible for generated savings of over $1million. Mr. Cheam has significant safety training and safety management experience, including: Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Process Safety Information (PSI), Contractor Safety Management (CSM), Incident Investigation (II), Risk Assessment (RA), Stop Audit (STOP), Work at height (WAH).
